Annoyance: Constant 'Security Information' Nags on Portal

This morning I noticed that whenever I log on and navigate around the portal I get a succession of Windows pop-ups titled 'Security Information' and the text is 'This page contains both secure and non-secure items etc etc.'

It never used to do this before.

    What's changed?

    Please change it back.

    Thanks

I just went into the Customer Portal and I don't see any pop-ups.

    I'm using Firefox.

Are you by any chance using Internet Explorer?

p.s. I've just tried it using Internet Explorer and no pop-ups here either Huh?

    Hi,

Same here I'm using mainly Firefox (latest version) & also Opera (latest version) I have no pop ups re: secure or insecure pages. It MUST be the way your browser is informing you that you are moving from HTTP to HTTPS and back again.  Whilst I know (can see) this is annoying it could be perceived as a good sign too & that your browser is keeping you informed of what its doing. i.e. the browser is doing its job correctly.

    Hi pintosal,

Yes, I'm using Internet Explorer and I've only just started to get these pop-up alerts on the Zen Portal within the last couple of days.

I'm used to seeing this alert on some other sites, like the comment sections of some blogs.  There doesn't appear to be an option for selecting not to receive these alerts on the Zen Portal.

I've not done anything different in the last few days, other than download the latest couple of MS updates for XP + SP2 - so unless one of these two patches has caused this alert to display on the Zen Portal, where it did not display before, I can only assume that Zen has made a recent change to its log in page which has initiated these alerts.

I agree, they are a tad irritating and I would prefer not to have them if possible.

Forgot to say that I am using IE6 on Windows XP SP2.

But I have not upated any XP or IE components, nor changed any of the security settings in IE.

I think it's caused by a change made by Zen.

Yes, I agree it's more likely a change made to the construction of the Zen page which is now initiating this pop-up alert for some of us.

If you do a Google search using "getting rid of this page displays both secure and non secure items alert"

you'll find there are a number of threads on various IT forums on this very issue.

One suggestion I came across for getting rid of the alert (disclaimer: I have not tried this out, myself, nor am I recommending that you or other readers try this, you would need to do some cross checking first on reputable sites for the implications of changing these settings) was:

Go to:  IE, tools, options, security tab, internet, Custom Level button, enable "access data sources across domains" or "access sub-frames across domains"

to which another contributor had added that they had also enabled

    "Display Mixed Content"

We will have a look into this. There have been no changes which should  have introduced this warning. If there have been changes which for some reason have created this issue we will look to resolve this.

Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.

Thanks,  I cannot think of anything else I have done which would account for the appearance of these alerts.  I don't mind clicking Yes or No the first time I bring up the Portal but the alert presents itself on every page as you navigate between the various Portal pages.

    Hi pintosal,

Thought I'd mention that I have, today, made the following change to my settings in Internet Explorer and the security alert which had only recently started displaying when navigating around the Zen Portal pages has now been disabled:

Go to:  IE, Tools, Options, Security tab, Internet, Custom Level button

enable  "Display mixed content"   (you'll find this option about half way down the option list)

Thanks, I will try this as a workaround

But I'd still like to understand what caused the change.
