Increase in Allowances (but not for Pro Customers)

Thinkbroadband reports that Lite and Active customers will get a 150% and 25% increase in download allowances for no extra cost. For us pro users, paying £34.99 a month - nothing. Seems a bit inequitable to me and is another reason for me to start thinking about moving - KeConnect do 100 gigs for £39.99 a month, for example. What price loyalty?

    Hello,

YES! I have to agree with you that does seem rather unfair to me too if thats accurate.

    **What Price loyalty?

ANS:- ALL that glisters is NOT necessarily gold though!. How about the quality of customer & technical support else where with other ISP's (95% of them are totally rubbish and don't know their TCP from their IP). I'd suggest to you that it is in the area of support were the major differences show up, also reliability & consistence of service. Also Zen have a website /portal that doesn't light up like some awful Xmas tree full of adverts all the time. Unlike other ISP's I can think of such as AOL et al.

Re: Increase in Allowances (but not for Pro Customers)

I had an email from Zen saying the 8000 package I am on will move from 20GB to 25GB from June onwards.

Very welcome and unexpected (subject to my connection speed allowing me theoritically use 25GB in a month!!)

Re: Increase in Allowances (but not for Pro Customers)

    Hi,

A connection speed of around 75Kbit/s (assuming I've not messed up my maths ;) ) should allow 25GB of usage per month, so I doubt you'd have trouble reaching that should you wish to. :)

    regards,
    Phil.

Re: Increase in Allowances (but not for Pro Customers)

I will stick with my Zen 100Gig download limit thanks.

As I hardly ever even get close to it, it is like having unlimited download, the moment when I do have to start worrying is the time I leave.

I agree it does seem a bit unfair, you pay less and get given a greater increase.

If O2 unbundle my exchange I will be gone.  (dream over)

What is the reason for not increasing the caps on the Pro packages?

You don't know how much I use or how much I pay.

Re: Increase in Allowances (but not for Pro Customers)

I was guessing you pay £34.99 and are on the Pro version.

Paying the same as me but I have 100Gig download limit.

     Guess I guessed wrong then.

Re: Increase in Allowances (but not for Pro Customers)

I guess you guessed some of it right, £34.99 plus top ups,

I have requested a MAC from the portal, off to O2.

An extra 5Gig might have kept me but I will give O2 a try.

You made the right decision staying on the 100Gig.

    Cheers

    Phil

Re: Increase in Allowances (but not for Pro Customers)

O2 would be my choice if they unbundled my exchange.

Good luck with O2, from what I have read you should be OK.

You made the right decision staying on the 100Gig.

I know I did and as I have said before, what it the point going faster to only run out of road.

I would have to be pushed off the fixed 2Meg because as it is now I am not jumping off.

My connection is rock solid apart from it seems to shut down every night between 12 and 2am.

    phil100:
What is the reason for not increasing the caps on the Pro packages?

The product is 25GB above the allowance that Active will have as of June 1, yet is only £10 more.  The reason for not changing Pro is basically commercial - as more people get closer to the full 50GB the costs increase and with the rise in use of funky tools like iPlayer etc. user profiles are changing bit-by-bit.  When decisions like these are made we have to ensure we're offering products that will be viable - so we can deliver what we say we will long term.

    regards,

    Phil.

I made the fatal mistake of jumping onto the max band wagon and hated it and Zen wouldn't let me back to my 2meg line. So I had to jump ship to another ISP who would offer me a 2meg package with 120GB capped.

So take heed on what britbrat says they have to pry my 2meg connection out of my dead lifeless hands at the moment.

Even though last month I only did 35 gig I would hate to have to count every bit.

Do you really care what my actual home system and network is I am sure yours will be bigger, better and faster.

Re: Increase in Allowances (but not for Pro Customers)

Looking to jump ship myself as it's getting a bit expensive for me with everything else going up, I was looking at 02 access as were not unbundled nor likely to be, good bit cheaper and I get a discount for having an 02 phone, drawback is that it's a 1 year contract so if it's rubbish your stuck, I'll have to have a good think about it
