Newsgroup downloads from news.zen.co.uk outiside the DSL quota?

Just a thought... I understand the concept of capping the download quota for ADSL customers. Internet transit/peering bandwidth is expensive and you need to keep control of customers with multi-megabit downloads.

However... what about downloads form the news.zen.co.uk server? Those cost nothing to Zen, it would be nice if those would not count against download quotas (also you'd push customers to use more of those).

Re: Newsgroup downloads from news.zen.co.uk outiside the DSL quota?

While that would be great and id love that i can see 2 problems.

1: usenet servers cost ALOT to run and maintain did you know they recieve for full binary access 300mbit of constant download stream so downloading from Zens usenet server isn't costing zen nothing because just operating the usenet server costs alot.

2: The biggest bandwidth cost for adsl customers using Zen isn't Zens transit costs to level 3 sprint and so on. It's the cost BT wholesale charge zen for use of the BT wholesale network and by downloading from news.zen.co.uk your still going through BT's side of the network too. And from what i understand it thats by far the biggest cost to Zen for bandwidth So i cant see Zen doing this.
