    Hi Ken,

Nice try but I cannot agree with you on the last point you make. Call me paranoid but like the pantomime horse if the vast majority of people in the audiance are shouting "Its behind you" then it probably is?? IMO it would be the quickest way to get stabbed in the back metaphorically speaking. Blink and before you can say Jack Straw or David Blunkett we're all living in a police state. or Guantanamo UK?

**NOP!! I wouldn't trust a politician "with any" of my personal data (as fare as I could throw him or her) nor any government department for that matter.

**Its 100% totally a no brainer that this particular government under Gordon Brown couldn't organize a p*** up in a brewery without getting it wrong or loosing the address of said brewery!! This governments track record on data safety is totally absymal and just cannot and should not be trusted. Let alone with ID cards etc.

If we are forced to have an ID card I am thinking of putting mine in the microwave for a few seconds.

Yes I know this may be on no use but if nearly everyone did it, it may make some sence, oh dear looks like my card got erased when I had the MRI scan or passed by the large magnet in the scrap yard.

I take it you all signed out of the NHS database.

    Hello BritBrat,

Nice sentiments & I sympathize with your view point, BUT what if the government makes it a criminal offence if you damage or knowingly brake your ID card??

**What if ID cards became mandatory i.e. you must carry them or produce them when asked by the authorities.

**What if you have to pay for your own ID card? which it looks like we will.

    Re: Big Brother & Zen

Yeah I know and thought about that but like the poll tax if to many did it the system would break down.

And they would have to prove you damaged it, but hey if we paid for it we can do what we like with it.

They can't lock many up as the prisons are already at bursting point.

    cassius:

On one hand, the ability to carry out properly authorised telecommunications interception has existed since the very earliest times. This is a matter of public record - even if the details of how it is done are not. It is carried out by trained professionals, and the data gathered is subject to very stringent security controls. This - authorised and controlled - capability is a necessary element in dealing with serious crime and national security issues, and it deserves our support.

That it is quite correct and as it should be. The controls used are very effective and security breaches are detected early preventing wide scale damage.

    cassius:

The government is spreading the story that they are unable to gather the communications data to control crime and terrorism, and therefore they need new and wide ranging data gathering powers. This is untrue. Where essential - it already exists.

If you only knew how true that is!  Ironically, the 'government', i.e. politicians, don't know they have the ability - probably a very good thing! Wink
