RE: BBC Multicast Trail, Unable To Get It Working

Quite a bit of experimentation with the draytek 2600+ has led me to agree with the mods here that it cannot pass igmp packets. Even if a machine is set up in a DMZ to receive all unsolicted traffic it will NOT recieve the multicast. The error I get is 'codec not found' when attempting to view in the gabest media player, the 'view from here' just hangs in perpetuity.

Oddly I do not get 'no stream' or other error messages that might suggest a lack of connectivity - which still spurs me on slightly to try and coax it into working.
    There are NO capital letters.

Yeah cheers lip. Thought it might be something to do with the router. Nevermind I will just turn the TV on instead

RE: BBC Multicast Trail, Unable To Get It Working

    Working well for me too.

Just seems there's a lot of people with poor hardware that dosen't support it.

RE: BBC Multicast Trail, Unable To Get It Working

I've tried it with my Speedtouch 585 but I can't understand which CLI commands to use to activate the IGMP proxy.

I then disconnected the router, disabled all the firewalls and plugged in the Alcatel Speedtouch USB frog modem and it still wouldn't have it. So I've given up.

Working OK on my X-Modem M3, I spent most of the day yesterday trying to get it to work with my WRT54G but no joy.

RE: BBC Multicast Trail, Unable To Get It Working

Ok, n00b here, so be nice......please

[1] Do you have to register to get multicast ?
    (ifso who, what, where, etc)

[2] Assuming not, I can't get it to work.
    I have 2meg broadband.
    Speedtouch st580 (with firmware v4.2.6)
I do have kerio personal firewall, avast avg, and peerguardian
BUT I briefly turned off kerio, peerguardian, and (I know I shouldn't)
the speedtouch hardware firewall, and tried with realplayer and MS media 10, and no joy.
I got the fairly commonly mentioned message:
"This server is configured to support only multicast connections. Please contact the content provider for more information on listening to this broadcast"

    Thoughts ?

RE: BBC Multicast Trail, Unable To Get It Working

When I try to play any of the streams linked from www.bbc.co.uk/multicast I get the following error:

Requested file not found. The link you followed may be outdated or inaccurate. (rtsp://rm11.rdthdo.bbc.co.uk/farm/*/ev7/news24.rm)

Is this because the links are all bad, or because it doesn't like my Draytek Vigor 2600VG, or because it doesn't like my Linux OS, or some other reason?

RE: BBC Multicast Trail, Unable To Get It Working

I wouldn't mind knowing how to get this working too!

I have a linksys befdsr41w - I'm only able to open up TCP or UDP protocols, and couldn't see anything for IGMP. I guess I have to wait for further technical advice??

Hello ic1male, I see your using the new Speedtouch 585 router, apart from this issue, what is your opinion of it please? Speedtouch sell them direct and I would like to order one.

RE: BBC Multicast Trail, Unable To Get It Working

    Well... I tried.

I have a Zyxel Prestige 661HW/61, with the latest firmware.

In the LAN setup, I enabled IGMPv1, but no go. I tried v2, again nothing. I next tried adding a firewall rule from all to my IP, with the IGMP service. Still nothing.

So I'm flummoxed. It won't work!

RE: BBC Multicast Trail, Unable To Get It Working

Getting it to work is very hardware dependant.

Some hardware doesn't support it, and nothing can be done (bar e-mailing the manufacturer and asking them to fix it in their next firmware release)

Some hardware does work - but it is difficult to configure (eg you might need to telnet to the router and look through the command line options, as its not in the web configuration page)

Other hardware may just work with no configuration at all!

Also the ISP gateways need to forward on the packets. AFAIK all our Gateways which terminate BT centrals do support this. The gateway that Rochdale LLU customers connect to did not support multicast the last time I heard, although this may have been updated now.

Given the hardware dependant nature it is very helpful if you can post if you have had it working/not working, with what hardware, and if any special configuration was required. Thanks to everyone who has posted so far. I may go through the posts at some point and collate a summary of what hardware is known working/not working
    Kindest regards,

    James Sweet

RE: BBC Multicast Trail, Unable To Get It Working

SPEEDTOUCH 585 with firmware 5.4.0.11 - NOT WORKING

Although this router has an inbuilt IGMP proxy which is new to this firmware, I cannot work out how to configure it. There is no documentation on the Speedtouch site yet for this version of firmware.
