Multicast with Linksys WAG54Gv2
atl: On the net, there seem to be mixed reports about the capabilities of the Linksys WAG54Gv2
I have tried my Linksys WAG54Gv2 with firmware versions 1.01.22, 1.01.27 and 1.02.00, and all have the same multicast performance (partially successful).
With IGMP v2 enabled in the Administration/Management page, I can view multicast video OK in WMP and Realplayer, but after a few minutes of multicast, the router starts dropping packets for all users, ping times go up, and then it stops responding to any traffic on the LAN side. From the LEDs, it looks like it is still receiving multicast packets from the DSL connection. Reboot seems to be the only way of unlocking it.
I would be interested to know if anyone else sees the same symptoms with this router.
[edit] I have done another test, and I find that if connecting to the router via ethernet, multicast works fine, and does not lock up. It does however lock up the wireless network connectivity, so is in practice still useless for me.

Re: RE: BBC Multicast Trail, Unable To Get It Working
I am trying to get my 1700 working, I also have a 2600 I could try on. Would you be kind enough to send me the whole "sh run" (with passwords blanked) so I can try it here.
Many thanks,
Spencer

Re: RE: BBC Multicast Trail, Unable To Get It Working
Just wondering if anyone had a working config for a Cisco 877W running 12.4(4)T1 Advanced IP Services IOS, while when I connect i see plenty going on in the logging, I still get file cannot be found when trying in realplayer.
Any help or pointers would be appriciated.

Re: RE: BBC Multicast Trail, Unable To Get It Working
Upon some further investigation it seems the pim hello requests I am sending out the dsl line to zen arent being responded to, therefore I have no pim neighbors:
rt0#show ip pim neighbor PIM Neighbor Table Neighbor Interface Uptime/Expires Ver DR Address Prio/Mode rt0#
Although I can see the hello request being sent down my dsl:
06-07-2006 22:11:35 Local7.Debug 192.168.0.1 47149: 047145: *Jun 7 00:42:48.546 PCTime: PIM(0): Send periodic v2 Hello on Dialer0
Could this be a config issue at my end, or is the lns I am on having some issues regarding multicast? I am currently connected to gauss.
Again any help would be appriciated ;)

Re: RE: BBC Multicast Trail, Unable To Get It Working
Hi all,
The reason this wouldnt work appears to be the bridged connection between the wireless and the standard interfaces on the 877W, i removed the bridge and all was well :)
Hope this helps someone in future.

Re: BBC Multicast Trail, Unable To Get It Working
I have this working behind USR SureConnect 9105 when I am plugged directly into it..
However I have a ClarkConnect gateway that I use as a multi-wan gateway.. and behind this it does not work.
[root@gateway ~]# cat /etc/release
ClarkConnect Office Edition release 3.2
Which is essentially core RHEL4 / CENTOS4
I have tried adding
iptables -I INPUT -p igmp -j ACCEPT
iptables -I FORWARD -p igmp -j ACCEPT
and I have tried adding
route add -net 224.0.0.0 netmask 240.0.0.0 dev eth3
eth0 disabled
eth1 wan1 (10 Mbps cable)
eth2 wan2 (8Mbps zen)
eth3 lan1 (192.168.0.0/24 gigabit)
eth2 is the DMZ of my sureconnect its address is 192.168.1.2 router address .1
Can anyone help? Can't get my head around it

Re: BBC Multicast Trail, Unable To Get It Working
For those of you who use Cisco, but use ACLs and IOS FW inspect, I can confirm that the following works (although there may be better ways to implement the ACLs):
Cisco 1721 with 64mb RAM and 32mb flash running version 12.3(19)
ip inspect name fw ftp timeout 3600 ip inspect name fw http java-list 2 timeout 3600 ip inspect name fw udp timeout 300 ip inspect name fw tftp timeout 3600 ip inspect name fw tcp timeout 300 ip inspect name fw rtsp
ip multicast-routing

Re: BBC Multicast Trail, Unable To Get It Working
Lots of useful info been posted here recently, cheers all! - I've tried to link to most of it from the sticky thread at the top of the forum. Any and all info about other devices is very welcome. smapjb: have tried adding
iptables -I INPUT -p igmp -j ACCEPT
iptables -I FORWARD -p igmp -j ACCEPT
and I have tried adding
route add -net 224.0.0.0 netmask 240.0.0.0 dev eth3
eth0 disabled
eth1 wan1 (10 Mbps cable)
eth2 wan2 (8Mbps zen)
eth3 lan1 (192.168.0.0/24 gigabit)
eth2 is the DMZ of my sureconnect its address is 192.168.1.2 router address .1
Can anyone help? Can't get my head around it
I'll have to double check, but the line:
route add -net 224.0.0.0 netmask 240.0.0.0 dev eth3 looks wrong to me. The problem is that on a traditional router IGMP will not transit more than one hop (by design), so its pointless trying to set up routing rules. Unless your router will act as an IGMP proxy between the 2 interfaces, or a full PIM capable router you will not be able to get it working.
Kindest regards, James Sweet http://www.zen.co.uk

Re: BBC Multicast Trail, Unable To Get It Working
I would realy love to get this working but I wouldnt have a clue where
to start. I struggled enough just to get my current setup working.
I have DSL-300T which is passing all traffic to eth0
on a Sun ultra 10 with debian which routes trafic to eth1 for my local
network using NAT and shorewall.
If anyone has any idea how to get Multicast working on this setup I would be both shocked and glad to hear it.
