Searched this forum for 'overheating'. Nothing found so I will start new thread. Hope not already discussed.
Started with Zen beginning of May. Win XP (firewall on), Opera browser, Zonealarm
Sometimes get 'Server not found'. Error messages suggest firewall and 'proxy server' as possible culprits.
Restart sometimes helped.
Surfed all day Sunday but unable to connect in the evening.
Reduced Zonealarm firewall setting. Still no connection.
Phoned Support. Found Support had finished for the day.
Noticed Internet light was intermittently red and off. Found unit was quite hot.
I had positioned it as per instructions on smooth surface. Swiched it off for a while. When cool I could connect OK.
Normally it is switched on for only a few hours a day but on Sunday it was on all day until it packed up in the evening. I would have thought Home Office users leave it on all day so this is surprising.
The ventilation holes are on the bottom and Speedtouch have fitted 4 little rubber feet so it is only 3mm from the surface on which it stands. All they have to do when they 'upgrade' is fit rubber feet that are a bit bigger but what can I do? My first reaction is to use it upside down so the hot air can rise through the ventilating holes. Any suggestions?
I gather there is an optional stand to use it upright so perhaps this is why my search found no posts about overheating, or perhaps relevant posts did not include 'overheating' the Subject. I have indicated error messages in my Subject to help anyone searching against error message.
Am I the only one with this problem?
If it is only my unit that overheats then I should report this to Zen as 'Defective Equipment'.
