Hi,
I had this line setup with Zen about 3 weeks ago and had an old US Robotics ADSL2 router just to get the line trained before moving in. This seemed to be 5.6 to 5.6 d/s whenever I was around to check it. Upon first moving in, I did notice it drop synch a few times and disconnect me playing WoW, but didnt think too much of it coming from Tiscali/Pipex's hellish broth of a service.
I switched the USR for my Belkin F5D-7632uk4a wireless upon moving in, and straight away it was synching at 7+. Over the past few days I've seen a low of 6.9 and a high of 7.7 for the downstream rate. At no point has it been consistent. For surfing/e-mail it's apparently fine, but when I tax it with a download it drops synch - doesnt mattter where I attempt to download from.
Knowing that the Belkin was synching so high, I figure it's time to buy a new wireless router, so have today picked up a new Linksys WAG54G2-UK, which is now running on the line. However, although synching at lower downstream rates of (currently) 6784 it is no more stable. Again, any attempt to download a file results in a synch drop - this time, it seems to be dropping synch even with no or little load. This is the case from a wired or wireless client.
My only deviations on all configs from default are ;
SSID Broadcast : No (if option available)
DCHP disabled and static pool limited
MAC Addresss filtering : Yes
Bit miffed that putting in a new router/filters/cables hasnt improved things.
Any suggestions as to how I go about getting this resolved?
Also : BT's master socket.....only two wires connected from the point of entry - is this correct ?
