I had a problem with NetGear DG834GT also related to having a service with port forwarding enabled.
I could ssh to my dyndns ip'd linux box from within my local lan, but not from externally. I was sure I had everything setup right and so ran ethereal on my linux box to see what was going on.

I am using a DG834 successfully in routed IP mode, whilst hosting services on several of my machines. To be clear, I have NAT and DHCP etc turned off.
