    SpeedTouch 585(i) v6 Installation

    Hi guys,

I switched to Zen about a month ago now and figured I may as well go wireless at the same time. I opted for the SpeedTouch 585(i) v6 which Zen recommends. However, things haven't been too rosy. I tried hard to get it working a while ago but due to other things keeping me busy I haven't had time to try it again until tonight. Unfortunately I haven't had much more success in getting it working.

I've had a great experience with SpeedTouch's 510 router but for some reason I can't get this one going. I start off by following the installation process on the disc. I enter in the serial number and then it tries to find the hardware. This is where I hit problems. I'd previously tried to use SpeedTouch 121G receivers wirelessly but don't think I ever got that working with Vista properly. Anyway, I figured the initial setup would be easier with ethernet and I could worry about getting wireless working later on. Now, for some reason the setup just doesn't realise it's connected by ethernet. Despite using the cable supplied the ethernet light doesn't even light up most of the time. So because the installation won't continue I'm left stuck.

I will note that I did manage to get into the web based interface briefly earlier. I did this by setting up my ST510 with the Zen details, unplugging it, connecting the 585 via ethernet and going to http://10.0.0.138/index.htm. I guess it worked because the settings from my old router got stuck somewhere on my computer and both routers are from the same company after all. Unfortunately before I could poke around the settings too much the web based interface stopped responding.

Any help at all would be appreciated. I've read all the other 585 related posts I could find and none were particually useful. I did read a few posts about software versions so I downloaded the latest one but have no idea how to install the .bin file. Someone in another topic suggested using the installation CD to do it but that only sent me to an old webpage.

    Darren.
