New version of Firefox Usage Checker posted

For all you Firefox users (cross platform), a new version of the Broadband Usage checker has been posted today and can be downloaded here:-

    http://tools.zensupport.co.uk/usagechecker/dl/ZenUsageViewer-1.1.0.xpi

For those who have used a previous version, clicking Find Updates in the add-ons menu should automatically update the control. For those new to the control you must enter the tools.zensupport website as a trusted source when prompted in order to install the control.

As always, feedback is welcome, actually, feedback is requested please!!

Re: New version of Firefox Usage Checker posted

This version is a complete re-write. There may only be small dfifferences in visual style but the entire control has been rewritten.

The other main, visible differences are that it automatically knows your broadband accounts according to the permissions of your portal username, the purchase additional usage link now authenticates directly to the portal and that if you have more than one account, you can specify the one to use. Oh yes and it uses the account aliases which are shown in the portal and will soon be settable too. In the meantime, they can be set using the .NET checker.

Re: New version of Firefox Usage Checker posted

I've just installed it and it doesn't seem to do very much.  I logged in and it just sits in the bottom right showing idle, I do have around 80 connections under my ID if that makes any difference?

One thing I did notice is that because it was sat at Idle and tried to log in with the wrong password, when I did it didn't prompt me to say that I wasn't connected, it just changed to 'sending authentication request' and then back to idel.  It would probably be nice to have some kind of message to say 'connected' or 'invalid password' et

Re: New version of Firefox Usage Checker posted

I'll pass this onto the developer. I am not resposnible for the Firefox client so can't comment much but having 80 connections should not, in theory be a problem.

The client does (normally) give an error if there is an invalid username and/or password.

Have you tried the .NET client?  Does that work for you? It may be a more general issue with your portal account.

I updated the old version to the new version (1.1.0) by updating through Firefox i.e. Tools > Add-ons

However there is a newer version available from here

I would uninstall the current add-on first though.

Re: New version of Firefox Usage Checker posted

I don't know if anyone else is getting this error in version 1.1.0

I'm about to upgrade to version 1.1.1 to see if this error still crops up.

As it is still BETA I know that a few bugs may show up so not a major problem.

Re: New version of Firefox Usage Checker posted

    Hello,

Thanks for your reply but frankly I'm absolutely non the wiser, look I have downloaded the file (viewer) from the Zen site location. But do I save it to disk (which i have now done) or do I open it? Then how do I install this?? How do I get FF too see the file I've downloaded and install it? Sorry! but when there is no instructions given its NOT obvious as to how to proceed, perhaps I'm missing something here?

    Thanks Ivan

Re: New version of Firefox Usage Checker posted

Cytek, all you need to do is download the file to your desktop and then drag the file onto the window of the Firefox browser.  It will auto install itself.

Reidca, sorry my mistake. after I restarted my PC when I loaded firefox the next time it did prompt me to say that my user credentials were incorrect.  Also, now I've got the correct ones in I do get a list of all my accounts, however I don't think it is that useful as all you get is the zen username to choose from.  I could see how this would be a fantastic little app for the home user though!

    Regarding the installlation issue:-

You can also choose to run the .xpi file using the Firefox application executable. This will install the add-on.

    Regarding the account list issue:-

At the moment you only see a list of zen account names unless you have specified an alias. An alias is a user configurable string which is useful for identifying the account.

Unfortunately, at the moment you can only set this using the Windows .NET client (https://portal.zen.co.uk/UserFiles/Downloads/BroadbandUsageChecker_v2.0.2.0.zip). This will be coming in a release of the portal due shortly. Once the alias has been set, it will be shown in the Firefox client, the Windows client and also in the portal.

Apololgies to all non-Windows users at the moment for this issue however the portal will soon allow you to do this.

    Hi again,

Thanks for the various replies, I managed to install the viewer via the drag & drop method and have checked the viewer has installed and have entered by credentials. But now I am wondering how I use the viewer?? Where does the viewer appear? sorry to seem so clueless but I think my brains getting abit rusty?

Bottom right of your Firefox  window, see the Zen logo and the figures next to it.

Re: New version of Firefox Usage Checker posted

    Hi,

NOP!! must be doing something wrong then?, I keep getting an alert when loading (opening the browser) which says there is a problem with my user name and password (credentials but it doesn't offer me a way to fix this though) its been quite frustrating TBH with you.

**AHHH !!! I take the above ALL back, now I have found the Zen stats, very nice too!! very happy now. So its been worth persisting with as usual.

I also used to get the above error message when I upgraded to the newer version 1.1.1

I have now switched to the Windows client and have been using it for a few days and the error message hasn't come up once Huh?
