    Speedtouch 585 v6 enabling security

I subscribed to Zen 8000 Lite in July and received the hardware promptly. I set it up and apart from one or two little teething problems it has worked fine. But I've now discovered (accidentally) that I've been running the system (585 V6 and Netgear WN511B) on my Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop without any wireless security at all. I've been trying all afternoon to enable WEP or WAP -PSK without any success. In the process I've also discovered in the Network Select field, two other networks BT Home Hub -358B and linksys SES 41024 each showing 42% performance. However, I don't recognise either of these. My Speedtouch network is showing 75%.

As a complete amateur I am now at a loss as to how I can enable my security and what to do about the other two networks I've discovered.

Finally - one other matter that's been bugging me for weeks. When I log on to a browser using my new wifi broadband, my laptop displays my old BT dial up window, asking me to choose a connection. When I delete that I get another pop-up telling me I can't access my browser page while offline and offering me a button to click 'connect' - all this while my netgear pop-up is telling me I'm connected to the Internet.

If anyone can help I would be really grateful. And thanks for taking the time to read all this. You may have guessed - its my first posting in this Forum.

Re: Speedtouch 585 v6 enabling security

Have you tried following the knowledgebase article for setting up the wireless?

The other networks you're detecting are likely your neighbours wireless networks, the low signal strength suggests they are not in the same building but also not too far away.

The reason you get a dial-up box is because your browser is configured to do so when you try to connect to the internet. Assuming you're using Internet Explorer for your browser, you can disable this behaviour from Windows control panel by going into Internet and the connections tab at the top, there is a selection for "never dial a connection", check this and click ok.
