Hi

I upgraded to the Zen 8000 from the 250 package in June this year. My line on a good day can reach its full potential of 1 mbit download. However my IP profile jumps around every day! It often requires me to reboot my router sometimes several times a day.

I also know that this list has been cut because it does not include June or July! I think I must have one of the most variable line connections in the country?! Or certainly I am up there in the top 100.

Believe me during this time since June I have tried everything - except changing router (I must do this as a test but I dont have the money at the moment). I have changed filters, cables, used the test plate only etc. etc.My router is a Belkin G+ MIMO F5D9630uk4A. I do live a long way from the exchange - maybe some 5/6 miles. The phoneline is underground and there is sometimes static on the line. The SNR does indeed drop and often hangs around from 5-8db at best for download.

Any suggestions from experts here? I may revert back to Zen 250 because I am getting no additional benefit for the extra money other than this hiliarious list of profiles!

I'm sorry to double post but I have tried a different telephone.

I have a cordless set (old vtech thing) and am now trying a standard telephone and it *seems* at the moment to offer more stability and less line noise.

 Early days yet but the SNR is higher and when using the phone at the same time the internet connection holds better.

I hope this works, early days still.

I had a chorded phone that generated noise like that. It could also be the filter you have on the phone unless you have a filtered master socket that is.

The most annoying thing about adsl is just how many sources of noise affect it from street lights to a device running next door.

ok 2 days in, IP Profile back at 1000 (but as you can see from the list, I have been here before in fact higher at 1250 on a couple of occassions)

Just as I finished last at 11pm, I noticed that the SNR had dropped to 3db. So maybe I need to dig further to resolve this issue or perhaps I am condemmed to poor connections forever.

I am seriously considering going back to the stability of a 250 package shame that the 500 one disappeared from the Zen product range.

 Would the Zen 250 package give a much greater SNR value which could asborb the poor line quality?

 

These are my current line stats, no change since 17th.

My noise margin is low and my upstream sync is low. But if this can hold I am happy.

This may not help but do you have sky ? I found I could gain up to 9db when i was with my old isp by unplugging it from the phone line,I have never reconnected it.

Thanks for the suggestion - i do have sky, but it is never connected to the phone line.

Just posting my solution to those that may also have the same problem:

 

Got a corded phone from work - took out the DECT phone. Bingo!

Much more stable connection - profile rarely changes now and am very happy as my line is very far away from exchange so I can accept some minor hiccups now and again.

 I now have better SNR - upto 11db from 0-4db

I can confirm that DEC telephones can be a real source of major problems with ADSL connections. My friend has a shared house & they all use a single wireless router, so everyone in the house can access the internet. 

Major problems were with dropped connections & frequent losses of IP address when in the middle of using the connection (i.e. surfing or downloading stuff)

 After many attempt to solve the problem I found that the DEC phones were the source of the problem (didnt help having a DEC handset & base unit located right next to the router of course, this was replaced with a normal     cabled BT handset problem solved, no more connection issues.)
