    Mail

I have two zen mailboxes and an old OneTel box. All routed to mac 'mail' app.   All are sent by the zen addresses but all replies cone back through the Onetel server which I'm trying to wean away from.  Tech. help assure me my POP and SMTP settings are set correctly but whatever I do all replies come through Onetel.   Any suggestions

    Re: Mail

Have you always used Macs, or have you migrated from PCs, like myself?

The reason I ask is it's a long shot (and as I don't have a PC to hand ATM, I can't check) but doesn't Outlook Express et al also provide a 'Reply' address field that's incorporated into a message header? If this is set it may go some way to explaining your problem...

    Re: Mail

For reference powerful, imagine that the POP mail server is like a post office, we generally hold your mail until you come and collect it from using mail.app

(POP stands for Post Office Protocol)

This behaviour can be changed. Look under the mailbox "Advanced" tab in preferences.

    Re: Mail

    Hi

The setting you're looking for is in  Mail -> Preferences -> Accounts -> Advanced

This allows you to leave mail on the server.  However, we recommend against doing this for any length of time - as the mailbox is not designed as a permanent store for your e-mail.  Perhaps delete from the server after a week or month... that would typically give you time to download on more than one machine if that is what you require.

    regards,

    Phil

p.s. I'm using Mail 3.0 on Leopard - but I'm pretty sure Apple haven't moved the setting... ;)

Look under Preferences->Accounts->Advanced and you ought to see "Remove copy from server after retrieving message" with the default setting of 'After one day'. Other settings are 'Right away','After one week' and 'After one month'.

I've upgraded to Leopard so am referring to Mail 3.00.
