    Firefox toolbar addon

I just installed this on my Mepis Linux system, and I'm pleased to say that it works fine. A very nice utility.

    Re: Firefox toolbar addon

I've just tried to install this on my Firefox (Windows MCE) and it comes with an error box saying it couldn't install because of a "Download error -228".

All other Firefox plug-ins work fine. I've tried the previous version of the plugin and that comes up with the same error. I'm running Firefox 2.0.0.9.

    Any ideas?

    David.

    Re: Firefox toolbar addon

    From the mozillazine site:

    Download Error -228

This error message may be caused by having the Firefox cache disabled. To re-enable:

    Firefox 1.5: Tools -> Options -> Privacy -> Cache Firefox 2.0: Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Network

Make sure the cache to at least 1MB.

Firewalls or spyware screeners may also cause this issue. If you use the CA firewall, Windows Defender, or the resident option of Spybot S&D ("Teatimer" feature), temporarily disable it to see if your system will now allow the extensions or themes to install [3].

Failing that, a workaround is to right-click the download link, select "Save Link As..." and download the .xpi or .jar file to your computer. You can then manually install it by dragging the file icon onto an open Firefox window [4].

Please note : the Download Error 228 message may also be seen if the required .xpi or .jar is not actually present on the server site. Therefore, it is advisable to check other download links on both the same site and a different site, before assuming that your own setup is at fault.

I did try to post a reply to this earlier, but for some reason I got a message saying that my reply had to be approved by a moderator before it would be shown. In the meantime, if you Google for "error 228" you'll soon find helpful answers.

Hi. The forum is configured to mark posts with more than a certain number of links in them as potential spam, hence requiring vetting. I've upped this number slightly now.

RE: dartiss - I checked it myself and turns out this is due to the fact that we moved the tools onto a different server late last week, and it appears the mime type for XPI files wasnt added to the new download location (sorry!)

I've added the mime type now, so you should now be able to download and install the Firefox plugin Smile

    Kindest regards,
