    PC components e-tailers

I can feel a spot of PC upgrading coming on soon.  But where to get the bits (CPU, mother board, memory etc)?

I'm fortunate to live near Overclockers UK - they have been reliable and easy to deal with in my experience, but aren't the cheapest around.

I see aria.co.uk seem inexpensive - any experience with them?

Any recommendations for a good place to go for computery bits?  need somewhere that stocks reasonably near-latest stuff (like Overclockers but unlike Maplins or Amazon).

    Any suggestions gratefully received.

    Hello,

I can highly recommend both of the following computer companies:-

    CCL computers near Bradford http://www.cclcomputers.co.uk/

    or

    EBuyer http://www.ebuyer.com

Ebuyer are extremely good in terms of customer service & price and have a VERY fair returns policy (create a free account if you buy from them).

**NOTE: CCL have been around in the computing industry for many many years, many other competitors went out of business during the dot com bubble yet they survived. I can remember when they used to trade from a single shipping container now they have a multi-million £ business and massive show rooms & warehouse.

I've used aria on many occassions and always found them to be very good. scan.co.uk, misco, komplett and dabs are all worth a look as is kustompcs.co.uk if you are looking for some more exotic offerings. morecomputers often have some bargains.

overclockers.co.uk was one of the first online retailers that I used and found them very good initially but in more recent years I have had several nightmare dealings with them.  So bad infact that I refuse to buy from them now.

    Happy hunting.

    Hi,

Just a further comment really, I have also used Misco and they are a very good company and they do have a vast range of computer & IT products. There prices are reasonable but what lets them down badly is the additional costs of delivery or P&P which sadly I concluded doesn't make them as competitive as other E trails I've used. I've stopped buying from them as a result.

**If the additional costs of delivery are not an issue (if you have a big flexible budget) then Misco are fine.

**if your watching every penny or on a tight budget you'll find other companies who are more competitive.

Well, 'they' do say that at least 80 percent of humanity are complete and utter
    morons... ;-)))

Judging by the prevailing, and historical, state of affairs I'd say 'they' are correct.

    Hi pwhyles,

I cannot agree with you!!. But human beings only use about 10% of their potential brains ability meaning that 80% of our potential is unused. Thats NOT quite the same thing though.

    Re: PC components e-tailers

Thats a BIG FAT FIRMATIVE!! YEP!! :-))) Pig's might fly.

    Nowt so stupid as humans,

look only humans could have invented something as utterly proposterious as god or Alha, etc Which you cannot see, cannot touch and is supposed to have made the entire universe in only 7 days flat.

Only human beings would be dumb enough to beleive in paradise, & fake promises of the  the next world to then go & blow themselves up & murder scores of other innocent people in the process.

YES! only dumb human beings would do such a thing in the perverted name of god & religion. How dumb is that??

OOPs!! sorry! hadnt intended a rant just sort of slipped out :-)

    > look only humans

It's the clever ones who perverted religion.

They corrupted it into just another power route; a way to control the stupid but still
have a good time (whatever a good time means to them) themselves.

Religion was very different pre Henry VIII.

All religions (and most anything ending in ism) are just systems created by the clever
to keep real power to themselves and the 80 percent(ish) of sheep under their control.

    IMO, of course.

    Re: PC components e-tailers

YEP!! religion is nothing more than yet another form of politics, it is the politics of controlling peoples spirituality.

**Religions tend to have many similarities to political parties & some large corporations i.e. they are hierarchical in nature and have some control freak sitting at the top i.e. gods PR rep on earth. Have large numbers do rules & regs, do's & don't to control followers or users. Like the catholic church for example classic case in point.

    Re: PC components e-tailers

Anyway, it ended up with most of it from scan.co.uk, with a couple of bits from overclockers that I can pick up myself.  In particular, they do the 500w Antec Basiq PSU - it's plenty big enough for what I have in mind, is dead cheap (<£40 inc VAT) so quiet that when I used one before I had to look at the case light to see if it was on.

Can't help with your imaginary friends though. :)

    Re: PC components e-tailers

As a postscript to this, I just bought a small heap of stuff from Novatech.  One thing was a different version from the one I thought I'd bought.  There was an error on their website that contributed to this.

Now, they could have told me to foxtrot oscar, as I had actually clicked 'confirm' on the actual item without noticing, but when I phoned up, they acknowledged the error had misled me and put it all straight without any problems or difficulty at all.  Of course, it would have been best if all was straight first time, but I generally judge customer service quality on how you're dealt with when something does go wrong, as is inevitablle sometimes.

     Anyway, big up to them.
