Windows Vista and USB Pen Drives

I have a number of USB Pen-type Drives, all of which work fine on my own machine running Windows XP Pro.

None of them will work on my mate's Laptop, which is running Vista Home Premium.

When I plug them in, I'm being asked for the software disk and when I ask Windows to search for a driver, nothing is found.

    Anyone any ideas, please?

Re: Windows Vista and USB Pen Drives

    Hello,

(ANS) I strongly suspect that all your pen drives are "NOT windows vista compatible" which is very very annoying to say the least.

The vast majority of Pen drives or USB attached drives DON'T require drivers to be installed as windows itself should recognise the hardware immediately. Then install or load a generic driver so that data on the     drive can be accessed successfuly. My sense is that Vista cannot correctly identify these drives because they are not compatible & Vista seems utterly rubbish at backward compatibility.

**Compatibility has been a HUGE problem with Windows Vista, even more so than previous windows versions but Microsoft seem to be keeping very quiet about the problem.

**Hardware must be Vista compatible and also meet the system requirements i.e. a new PC basically, software programs have also to be Vista compatible. And the BIGGEST problem of all has been device drivers for Vista as many companies are 12months on still only now writing new drivers for Vista.
