    A sad farewell

Thought I would just drop a line to say a sad farewell to Zen. Crying For months I've been debating with myself whether I could really justify paying £25 a month for 8meg broadband when so many cheaper options are available. My wife was no longer convinced with my argument about it being the Rolls Royce of ISP's particularly as she is running around in a ten year old Fiat Punto. Anyway, three weeks ago I took the plunge and signed up to O2 Broadband. 16 meg (ok I'm "only" getting 10 meg) unlimited for £10 per month. This is going to be rubbish I thought. It took less than a week to make the change, full credit to Zen for providing the MAC number almost before I asked for it. So far I have to say that I wish I'd made the move months ago. The service and speed is amazing. I did have an issue with the phones cutting off the broadband and thought this would take months to resolve but an on line chat with a very helpful technician on a Sunday afternoon resulted in him making a few changes at their end and the problem was solved.

So, I'll still have no hesitation in recommending Zen for business use and no doubt this is what they will concentrate on. However for personal use I'm afraid it really isn't an option any more.

Goodbye Zen, and thanks for providing a wonderful service in the past but it's time to leave the Rolls and drive off into the sunset in my brand new Fiesta!

    Hi DaveRave,

Sorry! your off & I hope we wont see you back again :-) meant in the nicest possible way though. I really hope O2 don't let you down or your expectations. Perhaps I've just become rather cynical in my middle age about the often over hyped promises made by such companies. Zen do seem different in that regard which is why I don't feel the need to seek another provider at present.

    Best wishes Ivan

I wish you well in the move.

Of all the ones that I would change to O2 are in the top two, so I think you should be OK.

If they unbundled my exchange I would make the same move.

Phone call options make no difference to me as I keep all options open by keeping a BT line rental.

    Re: A sad farewell

I'm making practically the same move as the original poster after close to 2 years with Zen. Zen support is fantastic and the speeds have been great all the time, very close to the maximum possible on a 8 meg line. I would definitely recommend them for home office, small business purposes, particularly for people who are likely to make use of their support. However, it's just far too expensive and for someone like me who habitually goes over the monthly allowance, 24 meg unlimited Be/O2 cannot be passed up.

    Re: A sad farewell

    Hello,

YES! sad that your migrating and I can fully appreciate your reasons. I have a friend who lives in London and has been with "Be" for sometime and he's had close to 24megs (I think he gets about 20megs on downlink) and has said the service was very good. He is a high level technical IT expert so he probably wouldn't use the "Be" support side of things.

**I know that the original ISP called "Be" was taken over I think by CW (cable & wireless? or Bulldog? not sure) and since then I've heard they are not as good as they used to be but thats only hear say though.

**My local BT exchange are now "Be" enabled i.e. LLU so I have that option to if I ever wanted to take that up but I'm really happy with Zen and have no incentive to change. i.e. if it aint broke don't fix it !!

Good luck anyway!! Kind Regards from Ivan.

Well I'm on my way back, I thought I'd try a move for financial reasons and should have known better, we don't have LLU so had to opt for o2 access it is  bad, download speeds were good but surfing impossible during the evening so I'm coming back home where I know I'll get good service

BE are due to unbundle my exchange at the end of this month (RFS date 30/6/2008) and I was contemplating going over to them.

However I have decided to stay put with Zen as in the last 2 years or so I have had a rock steady connection and was pleased with my requests for support when I first went on to Max a while ago (like having interleaving turned on, having my SNR margin increased to 9 dB from the default 6 dB, etc.)

I don't want to risk this for a few quid a month saving plus having to phone Bulgaria for support should anything go wrong.

I had enough of the Indian call centre when I was with AOL !

Welcome back to Zen Big Smile

    Re: A sad farewell

It was the Access package I took as we aren't unbundled so therefore ipstream but it was too flakey, very poor in the evenings which is when most people want to use it. Also I know with Zen that I can come on here and ask for help as most of o2 is unbundled there's not much help (forum wise) out there if you say anything bad you get shot down in flames

On one hand i am sorry it did not work out for you with the new provider, on the other Hand I am happy to welcome you back to Zen. If you have any problems do drop me a line.
